New Warriors head coach Michael Nees is expected to land in the country on Wednesday afternoon and name the AFCON Qualifiers squad, New Zimbabwe.com has learnt.

Nees was appointed as the new Warriors gaffer last month on a contract which will see him at the helm of the men’s national team until June 2026.

The German tactician was supposed to have arrived in the country last week but was delayed by immigration paperwork.

Sources within ZIFA told New Zimbabwe.com that the new coach is finally landing on Wednesday afternoon.

“All I can tell you for now is the new coach will be welcomed tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon in the country at Robert Mugabe International Airport.

“Everything is now in order in terms of his work permit.

“I can even confirm to you that he is supposed to watch the CAPS United vs Manica Diamonds match on Sunday at Rufaro stadium, mind you the AFCON Qualifiers are around the corner so he needs to come up with a squad next week,” said the source.

Nees’s first assignment with the Warriors will be on the 6th of September when Zimbabwe face Kenya in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.

Nees’s assignment with the Warriors is the third on the African continent, previously he has worked as head coach for Seychelles (2002-03) and Rwanda (2006-07), before serving as the technical advisor in  South Africa (2009).
