Manchester United could make millions from a possible Mason Greenwood transfer, despite selling the academy graduate to Ligue 1 side Marseille back in 2024. Since his move to France, the 24-year-old has scored 33 goals in 52 appearances and caught the eye of a number of high-profile European clubs.

Greenwood, who was previously charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, saw charges dropped in February 2023.

After being suspended by United, he returned to football during a loan spell with La Liga outfit Getafe, before in turn agreeing a permanent move to Marseille for £26.6million, with United agreeing 50 per cent sell-on fee should the French side look to cash in.

The ex-United player was linked with a big-money switch to Saudi Arabia in the recent summer transfer window, though a move did not come to fruition.

La Liga giants Barcelona are also said to be keeping a close eye on Greenwood, having reportedly watched him in Marseille’s 6-2 win over Le Havre this season.

Hansi Flick’s squad are said to be assessing their forward options ahead of next summer, with Marcus Rashford currently on loan at the Camp Nou.

Rashford has impressed since his move there and Barcelona have an option to sign the England international for £25million, plus £5million in add-ons.

If Greenwood were to move to the Camp Nou, then he’d reunited with his former United teammate. However, reports in Spain claim Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 24-year-old which would deny a reunion.

Reports claim the French side have slapped a £70million asking price on his head, with Diego Simeone admiring what Greenwood could add to his Atletico side.

Marseille manager, Roberto De Zerbi, was asked about Greenwood ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League clash with Newcastle United and said the former United striker had paid a heavy price for what happened during his time at Old Trafford.

The Italian head coach said: “He’s a good guy, he paid a heavy price for what happened, a very heavy price.

“He has found the right environment for him. We have lent him a hand and given him affection. He’s a little bit introverted, but I know him and his family.

“It saddens me what has happened in his life, because I know a totally different person than the one who was described in England.” – ManchesterEveningNews
