The Mudzi Rural District Council has written to the Provincial Mining Commissioner for Mashonaland East Province, seeking intervention and clarification over the boundaries of Futeng Mine in the Rwamba area.

In a letter dated 2 December 2025, the Council’s Planning Department, through District Planner N. Mugari, said that Futeng Mine is carrying out operations in and around the premises of Rwamba Primary School, asserting that the school falls within the company’s mining claim. Said Mugari:

“It has come to our attention that Futeng Mine is claiming that Rwamba Primary School lies within their mine claim.

“Consequently, mining operations are being conducted in and around the school premises.

“This situation has raised serious concerns within the community, as the school has been in existence well before the establishment of the mine.

“The ongoing mining activities have triggered a community outcry, with parents, guardians, and local leaders expressing grave concern over the safety and welfare of pupils and teachers.”

Mudzi RDC is requesting the Provincial Mining Commissioner to provide the official boundary demarcation of Futeng Mine in the Rwamba area and to clarify whether Rwamba Primary School legitimately falls within the mine claim.

The Council also seeks guidance on the correct position to help the council, the community, and other stakeholders resolve the matter.

The Council stressed that the issue has serious implications for education, community welfare, and the safety of children, and therefore requires urgent attention.
