Former Gokwe legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena has successfully retrieved his impounded luxury vehicles and haulage trucks after the High Court ordered the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and the Prosecutor General (PG) to execute the judgment.
Wadyajena, a close ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, had been fighting for the release of his assets, which were seized by ZACC alleging they were ill-gotten wealth. However, the court found no evidence linking him to the allegations and threw out the case.
Despite the court’s initial order to release the assets, ZACC delayed, citing ongoing investigations. But the High Court has now ordered both ZACC and PG to execute the judgment, granting Wadyajena leave to execute the judgment pending the determination of appeal numbers SC 250/24 and SC 254/24.
The seized property included 23 haulage trucks, a Lamborghini SUV, and a BMW X6M vehicle. ZACC and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had been dragging their feet to release the luxury vehicles and trucks, citing flimsy conditions.
Wadyajena was arrested alongside former Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco) officials Pius Manamike and Maxmore Njanji, who were also released due to lack of evidence. They faced fraud and money laundering charges involving US$5 million.
The High Court’s judgment marks a significant victory for Wadyajena, who has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal.
The case has been viewed by many as politically motivated, given Wadyajena’s close ties to President Mnangagwa.
