HARARE – A group of 40 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists accused of breaching the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act ahead of last year’s general elections will know their fate next Friday when magistrate Sharon Rakafa is expected to hand down her judgement on their case.

The 40 include Glenview South MP Grandmore Hakata.

Hakata and his alleged accomplices were arrested in August last year while holding what prosecutors alleged was an illegal electoral campaign roadshow at Machipisa shopping centre, Highfield, Harare.

It is the state’s case that they had notified authorities about a campaign rally at Churu Farm, but they diverted from the planned location which caused their arrest.

Judgement on their case was expected on Thursday after the state closed its case recently.

It was however postponed after one of the suspects, Shamiso Hakata failed to show up in court.

“I will find out why she failed to come to court,” Kudzayi Kadzere representing the activists said.

The activists are out on bail.
