Man’s secret mbanje garden bust
A 52-YEAR-OLD man from Inyathi has been arraigned before the courts for growing marijuana. Xhasa Mtshabi is believed to have planted the drug which he wanted to peddle but his luck ran out after police from Insuza were tipped off on 1 March 2022.
The police visited his homestead in Circle C, village 1 in Inyathi and interrogated Mtshabi, who admitted that he had a garden of dagga.
Mtshabi and his wife, Cathrine Mzamo, then took the police to his field, where 32 plants of mbanje, ranging from 30 to 150 centimetres were recovered.
Mtshabi appeared at the Tredgold Magistrates’ court charged with the crime of contravening section 156(1) (b(ii) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23 “unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs”.
The recovered dagga was produced in court as an exhibit. Mtshabi, who appeared in court without a lawyer, requested a week to find legal representation.
“I will need to sell my cattle to pay a lawyer and I am applying for bail,” Mtshabi pleaded. He was then remanded to March 14, 2022 and bail was not opposed.
