ALICK Macheso says fishing and athletics are some of his hidden talents, which could have taken him places, writes Trust Khosa
In an interview with H-Metro ahead of his 55th birthday tomorrow, Macheso reckons he is multi-talented and multi-tasking.
“One of the talents I possess is fishing. To be honest, I am really good at this, I can catch more fish than anyone else if we go on a fishing expedition.
“If you want, you can bring your fishing rods and I will bring mine tomorrow.
“I think it’s just a gift from above that I have my brother.”
Macheso says he is equally good in athletics.
“During my youthful days, they used to call me Dzvairo.
“I was really good when it came to athletics.
“I was as good as Usain Bolt, but I decided to pursue music.
“However, I don’t regret pursuing music because I am now making a living out of it. To me it’s a calling I cannot resist.”
Macheso has a soft spot for gardening.
“At Hereford Farm, I used to maintain our white boss’ garden, which brought me closer to our employers.
“I used to eke out a living with the money I got from maintaining our boss’ garden.
“I still take it as a hobby because I love greening.”
Macheso, who learnt to work hard at a very young age, has also imparted the same philosophy to his children.
“As a father, I want my children, especially sons, to learn to work hard and feel that life is not easy even if they can get everything they want.
“I want them to be able to look after themselves even after my death.
“I know I won’t live forever so I am one person who believes in working for myself.
“I didn’t get everything I have on a silver platter but I worked hard.” — HMetro
