ALMASI Collaborative Arts, founded by United States (U.S.) based actor Danai Gurira, will screen a contemporary play titled ‘Family Riots’ next month at the National Arts Gallery in Zimbabwe.
Written by Gideon Jeph Chawaguta, Family Riots, is a play that explores the experiences of a young family, set in the high-density suburb of Mbare during the 1990s.
The play will be directed by Makomborero Muchemwa and Lucie Tiberghien and will premiere between November 15 and 24.
The production highlights the strides that Almasi Collaborative Arts has been making in nurturing local theatre talent.
Chawaguta is a beneficiary of the Walter Mparutsa Fellowship, which enabled him to graduate in Dramatic Writing in the U.S.
Tickets to attend the play are available online for US$10.
