A WOMAN was raped and murdered in Mabvuku on Saturday.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the rape and murder of the 54-year-old woman.
“We are investigating circumstances surrounding this case, which occurred on the 5th of March, in the morning,” said Nyathi.
“The body was half-naked with pants pulled below knee level.
“A deep cut was observed on the head with one empty condom sachet and five unused condoms scattered at the crime scene.”
This comes as police have arrested 35 illegal gold miners at Happy Valley Mine.
The arrests were conducted as part of the operation “No To Machete Gangs.”
“We arrested and recovered an Utas pistol, with 20 rounds of ammunition, a Rossi Revolver calibre, 38SPL with 7 rounds, a Shotgun with 3 rounds, a 202 rifle with a magazine of 15 rounds, a compressor, 100m hosepipe, 2 shovels, wheelbarrows two manual pull system, and a rubber bucket,” said Nyathi.
Under the “No To Border Crimes” operation, Asst Comm Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Descent Chowawa and Thomas Tsiga for smuggling in Beitbridge.
“The suspects were intercepted at a security checkpoint, with an imported Nissan Hardbody vehicle, and produced a TIP, with another person’s name without an import permit for the vehicle,” he said. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was deregistered in South Africa.”
