THE book keeper of a top restaurant, Three Monkeys, appeared in court yesterday for allegedly defrauding the eatery of more than US$62 000.
Ngonidzashe Nyajina (30) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who granted him US$100 bail.
Allegations are that in April, a new Three Monkeys branch was opened in Greendale, and Nyajina was appointed its book keeper.
As part of his duties, he was supposed to receive money from cashiers, pay suppliers and send all cash books to the head office on a daily basis via Google Drive.
The court heard that from April to this month, Nyajina inflated figures on petty cash vouchers after making the payment.
Nyajina would at times raise fictitious petty cash vouchers and convert the money to his own use.
The offence was detected when the finance manager requested all cash books, supply invoices file and expenses file to capture the information into the system.
Nyajina had not been sending the cash book.
During the process of capturing information, it was found out that the payments made to the suppliers appeared to be more than what was supplied to the restaurants.
The suppliers were contacted for verification, and they denied having received some of the payments. The suppliers also disowned signatures on the payment vouchers.
Supplier reconciliations were done and a total of US$62 735 could not be accounted for, prompting the company to make a police report against Nyajina.
