THE community of Banket is still reeling from shock after a middle-aged woman allegedly assaulted her husband to death with the help of her lover.
The gruesome killing of George Mpofu (40) allegedly by his wife Nyadzisai Zungunde (39) occurred at Oxford farm, Banket, last week.
According to a police memorandum, Mpofu’s body was discovered by informant Bertie Zungunde aged 22, who later alerted authorities.
Circumstances are that on August 11, 2024 at around 1500 hours Nyadzisai Zungunde of Oxford farm compound, Banket had a misunderstanding with her now deceased husband Mpofu along a strip road heading towards Marowa farm compound.
During the scuffle, the now deceased punched his wife with a fist on the mouth resulting in her losing a tooth.
She retaliated and struck Mpofu once on the forehead with a brick and a stick on his back.
Sensing that he was losing the battle, Mpofu strangled his wife on the neck and she fought back by chewing his right ear.
The two later stopped fighting and resolved to seek counselling from one Tapfuma Nzou, but whilst on their way Mpofu reportedly changed his mind and told his wife that he was going to commit suicide by hanging.
The now deceased’s wife went to the farm compound and informed police Constable Charles Murefu, who promised to inform ZRP Banket the next morning.
In a surprising turn of events, the following morning, Mpofu’s body was found suspiciously hanging from a tree, suggesting he could have been murdered before assailants tried to cover it up by making it seem like suicide.
Informant, Bertie Zungunde, filed a Police report at ZRP Banket under CR34/08/24
According to the memo, investigations carried out on August 12, detectives from CID Chinhoyi and ZRP Banket details attended the scene and established that the now deceased’s body was found hanging on a tree which is about 500m away from where he fought with his wife.
