A Chinhoyi mother reportedly killed her two children aged eight and six years today, before attempting to commit suicide in Cherima suburb.
She is said to have given the children unknown lethal tablets.
The incident was discovered this afternoon at the family’s rented lodgings after fellow occupants could not account for them since morning and had to break open the door to the family’s room where they found the children dead.
The mother was still alive and continued taking the tablets even as efforts were being made to save her.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the mother could have died later on, on admission at Chinhoyi Hospital.
The woman’s husband is said to have left the home for his work station in Harare yesterday and there are no indications of knowns domestic problems between the couple.
