A man from Kuwadzana last week appeared in court for allegedly raping his 13-year-old daughter.
The man and his wife are on separation and the State alleges that the incident occurred on August 4.
This was after the mother of the complainant sent the girl and her brother to collect new clothes from their father.
It is alleged that as a way of getting private time with his daughter, the man sent his son to buy potatoes and made some advances on the minor, who expressed her displeasure.
The court heard that after a few minutes, the girl’s brother came back and the father again sent him back to buy meat and drinks.
He continued to force himself on his daughter and when she tried to escape from the house, he shouted “thief, thief” and a passer-by stopped her, the court heard.
The passer-by, a woman, handed the child back to the father although she made efforts to alert the woman about the abuse to no avail.
The girl and her brother tried to escape, but the father grabbed and blocked his daughter. Later at night he offered to escort her to Kuwadzana 3 and raped her along the way.
On another count, the State alleges that the father went to buy beer with his daughter at the shops and on their way back he raped her.
The matter came to light after the girl told her sister about the abuse when she returned home.
The information was passed to the mother who later escorted her to the police where she filed a report.
The father, who is aged 40, appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa who advised him to seek bail at the High Court.
He returns to court on September 13 for a possible trial date. — Herald
