
A 47-YEAR-OLD man from Rock Church Riverside in Bulawayo appeared in court for hitting his wife with fists and open hands all over her body after he suspected that she was cheating.
Lameck Phiri is charged with the crime of physical abuse as defined in section 3(1) (a) as read with section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 5:16 and appeared at the Bulawayo magistrates’ court.
The court heard that Phiri and the accused were married. Allegations against him are that on 25 December 2021 at around 7.30 pm the complainant, Nobuhle Ncube (42) was at church inside a room when the accused entered the room and started accusing her of having a boyfriend in the room.
Phiri went on to hit his wife with fists and open hands all over her body until the complainant’s son intervened. When he appeared in court, he was remanded to 22 February for the State to provide a trial date and bail was granted at $2 000.
On 22 February the matter was again moved to 18 March and the accused was told not to interfere with witnesses during that period and to reside at 27 Hope Fountain road with his siblings.
