RAYMEG Consultants Private Limited has launched Zimbabwe’s first rabbit polony as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the rabbit value chain in the country.

This new addition significantly broadens the organisation’s range of rabbit meat value-added products, which now include rabbit burgers, rabbit pies, rabbit biltong, rabbit nuggets, rabbit and chips, rabbit pizza and more.

“I am thrilled to share some fantastic news with you. After many months of dedicated research and preparation, Raymeg Consultants Private Limited has successfully launched Zimbabwe’s very first rabbit polony,” said Paidamoyo Nyamakanga, executive director at Raymeg.

“This launch is part of Raymeg’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the rabbit value chain in Zimbabwe.”

Raymeg is a pan African diversified group with interests in strategic communication, farming and retail.

The group was incorporated in 2002 and has operations in Kenya, South Africa, Somalia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The firm, a member of the Zimbabwe Commercial Rabbit Breeders Association (Zicorba), opened a rabbit abattoir in Harare in 2020 with a processing capacity of 2,5 tonnes of meat per day.

Formed in July 2020 by a group of rabbit farmers, Zicorba is the only collective voice of rabbit farmers in Zimbabwe.

The association has entered into strategic partnerships with a number of other rabbit farmers’ associations in Africa, including Botswana, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa and Uganda.

In its first year of existence, Zicorba wooed local businesspersons to invest in what was previously a neglected sub-sector.

This has turned rabbit farming into one of the most coveted and burgeoning enterprises in Zimbabwe. — NewsDay
